How to Make Your Home Fragrance Last Longer

How to Make Your Home Fragrance Last Longer

Creating a welcoming atmosphere in your home with fragrant candles, wax melts, and diffusers is a delightful way to personalise your space. If you’re looking to prolong the life of your home fragrances, a few expert tips can keep your abode smelling wonderful for longer.

1. Optimising Candle Burn Time

Making candles last longer is an art that begins with the very first use. To extend the life of your candles, ensure that you allow the wax to melt across the entire surface before blowing it out. This practice, known as the first burn rule, prevents tunnelling, a common issue where candles burn straight down the middle, leaving a ring of un-melted wax along the sides of your pot.

  • Trim the Wick: A must do! Before each use, trim the wick to about 5 mm. This not only ensures a cleaner burn but also prevents the wick from mushrooming and producing unwanted smoke.
  • Avoid Draughts: Place your candles away from draughty areas. Winds can cause candles to burn unevenly, and decrease the overall burn time.
  • Use a Candle Snuffer: When you blow out your candle, use a snuffer to prevent wax from splattering and the wick from shifting, which helps maintain the integrity of the candle and reduces the chance of black wick residue spreading.

2. Wax Melts: Maximising Scent Throw and Longevity

Wax melts are a fabulous alternative to traditional candles, allowing you to swap and change your scents more frequently. To get the most out of your wax melts:

  • Appropriate Warmer Use: Ensure that the warmer you use is suitable for the size of the wax melt; this will optimise the release of fragrance without overheating or burning the wax too rapidly.
  • Control Usage Time: Limit the melting time to a few hours at a time. Overheating the wax can cause the fragrance to dissipate quicker.
  • Refresh the Wax: Once you notice the scent fading, it’s time to refresh the wax. Let the wax cool and solidify, then warm it slightly to remove easily and replace it, you can watch how this is done on our instagram page.

3. Prolonging the Life of Reed Diffusers

Reed diffusers offer a constant way to fragrance your home without fire or heat. The key to making diffusers last longer lies in how you manage and maintain them.

  • Flip the Reeds Regularly: Flip the reeds every week to help the fragrance oils continue to evaporate and scent your room. Be sure to do this over a sink to avoid any spillage.
  • Choose the Right Location: Place your diffuser at head height and away from draughty areas, that way when you walk past you'll get a good whiff!
  • Use Fewer Reeds: If you find the scent too strong or wish to make the oil last longer, use fewer reeds. This will slow down the rate of evaporation. With our diffusers, you get 8 reeds so you can decide how many you want to use depending on the scent throw in the specific room.

4. Smart Buying Tips

  • Quality Over Quantity: Invest in high-quality fragrances from reputable brands like ours. Higher quality scents tend to have oils that last longer, providing more value for your money.
  • Check the Base of the Wax: Coconut and rapeseed wax (RCX) candles burn longer and cleaner, while high-quality bases for diffusers provide a longer-lasting scent which is why we used this specific wax.

By following these guidelines, you can significantly extend the life of your home fragrances, ensuring that your space remains beautifully scented for as long as possible. Remember, the longevity of fragrance is not just about the product quality but also how you use and care for them. Happy scenting!
